Help us raise $40,000 through GlobalGiving

Thanks to all of your generous support, we successfully met our GlobalGiving Challenge to raise $5,000 in 30 days. We still have a long way to go to reach our goal of $40,000 to purchase land & a greenhouse to support the mission of Agatha Amani House.
Help us feed an entire community of women and children who are abuse survivors.

Permaculture Progress at the shelter

Meeting Our GlobalGiving Challenge means helping an entire community of abused women & children in Kenya.

There is great need for support and rehabilitation for survivors of sexual and domestic violence in Kenya. Currently in the town of Naivasha, there are countless cases of women who have survived rape and have children and/or are pregnant with nowhere to go, thus, furthering the cycle of pain, neglect, and poverty.
Agatha Amani House, opened in 2014, provides these women and children with countless resources and aid, helping them to reenter society with skills, strength, empowerment, and in many cases, education. Unfortunately, they do not have enough land or resources to expand. They do their best to utilize their land to its fullest and to be self-sustaining, however, they still remain highly limited.
Choose to donate any amount to help us reach our goal.
Thank you!

They need to purchase the surrounding land to get a healthy farm going and create more room for more women and children. They are well trained in permaculture, land regeneration and bio-gas and wish to eventually change our entire community’s approach to the land. Kenya is a country of farmers but with climate change and non-sustainable farming techniques, our land and people are suffering. It is crucial for the health of our people to utilize the land to its greatest potential without destroying it. We believe that the answer is in the land.

Help us provide a life of purpose and confidence for these women. Your donation will help AAH with sustainable enrichment by providing land to cultivate food, a green house, fencing, drip irrigation, water and a love of sustainable and regenerative gardening. By purchasing the neighboring land, Agatha Amani House will be able to cultivate resources and sustainability. AAH will be able to expand and bring in more women to rehabilitate. We empower the women we help and send them back into the community, shifting the cycle of poverty and pain, healing our community of Naivasha. This is all through lifting up the women, and cultivating the land in regenerative methods. Abundance and empowerment, it’s that simple. We feel this vision is highly feasible with your help!

Our Challenge

The land that we seek is adjacent to the compound wherein the other three sides of our compound are now owned and occupied by neighbors. This land is now available for sale for the first time. In order to increase agricultural products immediately for sustainability and to provide space for a greenhouse as well as future expansion of housing facilities for survivors, we face an urgent need to acquire the land in question before it is sold, giving us no chance for expansion.

How Your Donation Helps

With your help, by acquiring the land, fencing it for security, and adding a greenhouse for intensive production of food crops, we will be eliminating the concern of becoming landlocked and unable to expand the shelter. The immediate positive would be the growing of additional crops by using permaculture methods and intensive growth of various food products in the greenhouse for both consumption and sale. Achieving these objectives will reduce dependency on charity.

Why Your Donation Matters

The potential long-term impact will enable future growth. It will provide training and skills for survivors towards employment once they leave the shelter. In addition it will provide and facilitate sustainable and regenerative agriculture that will assure food long-term. Income generated from farm will offset shelter expenses thus ensuring sustainable operations. Working in the soil also provides a therapeutic outlet for the survivors. We will be able to increase the amount of survivors we can work with, launching empowered women back into the community, healing the community of Naivasha. We believe this increased healing will also echo into the rest of Kenya.
